Stretch Marks

Stretch marks develop when the skin is made to stretch at an abnormally fast rate. Skin is naturally elastic.

However, when something causes it to stretch rapidly, the skin is unable to react fast enough and the middle layer of skin (called the dermis) tears.

These tears in the dermis look like reddish-purple lines at first, but they eventually turn into the more silvery-white streaks that we all know as stretch marks.

They can be pinkish or reddish, purple or white. New and forming stretch marks will appear as pinkish, red – and these marks will be easier to try and restore. If not, eventually they will turn into the whitish stretch marks and this will be harder for you to remove from the skin.

But stretch marks should not be confused with cellulite – because they are very different.

Cellulite

Cellulite are fat cells that lie just beneath the skins surface (these lumpy little fatty deposits look just like cottage cheese or cheesecake dimples).

This problem also affects women of every shape and size too, which means you don’t have to be overweight or “fat” to have cellulite. It is more likely to happen to people after the age of 25 years, but it can affect younger people as well, including teenagers.

Hormonal changes and a build-up of toxins and chemicals in the body, particularly in the fat cells, are the two most common causes of this condition

So prevention is always better than cure, right?
