Country star Travis Tritt was involved in a fatal car accident that included a wrong-way driver around 3 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.
The country star was on a highway in South Carolina when a Jeep, going the wrong way, sideswiped his tour bus, reported WMBF.
“A 2014 Jeep was traveling east but going the wrong direction and hit a 2014 Dodge pickup truck head-on in the westbound lane,” according to Cpl. Sonny Collins of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Two people died as a result of the crash and another person was hurt, reported WMBF.
“The driver of the Jeep and a passenger in the Dodge were killed and the driver of the Dodge was taken to the local hospital,” Collins said. Everyone in the vehicles was wearing a seatbelt, Collins said.
Tritt took to Twitter to express sorrow over the tragedy.
“I feel so bad for those who died needlessly tonight. I’m really shaken up by what I witnessed. God bless those who died.”

He also mentioned the crash itself, writing, “We were just involved in a fatal accident with a driver going the wrong way on Veteran’s Highway as we were leaving Myrtle Beach. Thank God we are all okay.”
Tritt added on Twitter: “We sustained minor damage as we tried to avoid the crash site in front of us. Bus damage can be fixed, but lives cannot be replaced. I’m so incredibly sad for those who lost their lives tonight.”

He also shared an update about the driver of the Jeep.
“I’m told that two people were killed in tonight’s accident as the result of someone who was obviously driving drunk or impaired,” he wrote.
He then gave a reminder to his fans and followers: “Just a sober reminder to everyone to never drive if you’ve been drinking or impaired in any way. Uber or Lyft is just a phone call away.”

He also implored people to be safe.
“I beg everyone to please, please, please drive sober. Know when to admit that you are too impaired to drive,” he wrote.

He concluded with his gratitude for God.
“We only were sideswiped in tonight’s accident. It could’ve been so much worse,” he wrote. “God was obviously watching over us tonight. I praise God for keeping us safe!”

According to his tour website, Tritt was scheduled to perform at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach last night.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating and has not released other details about the wreck or the names of the victims.
