Residents in Michigan’s Fruitport, around Spring Lake, are relieved after they were told Saturday evening around 6:15 p.m. that an emergency evacuation order had been lifted for those living around a local light manufacturing facility that reported an explosion risk from a factory fire.
The emergency order was called for residents within a half mile radius of the factory earlier on Saturday around 5 p.m. in relation to the high potential for an explosion at an industrial fire at 14638 Apple Drive, Fruitport.
Ottawa County Emergency Management said at the time that Linamar Manufacturing was at the address and that an explosion hazard had been reported and was being closely monitored.
The order was made out of an abundance of caution, requiring everyone in the half mile radius to evacuate.
By 6 p.m., the fire had been contained, Ottawa County Director of Emergency Management Lou Hunt told local media.
Residents were told they can now return to their homes, with the situation stabilized thanks to “proactive measures on scene,” the branch of the County Sheriff’s office said.
Fire fighters from several fire departments responded to the emergency.
“Thank you to all of the first responders that prevented what may have been a dangerous situation!”
