An infant from Ivory Coast born with two spines and four legs underwent surgery to remove her parasitic twin at a hospital outside Chicago.

Tiny Dominique survived the six-hour operation and returned to her parents on April 20.

I didn’t think I would get my daughter like this, today,” her mother said, upon seeing her daughter for the first time after two months. “Thanks too to the surgeons who did the work. Thanks to the American people who helped the child”

Dominique spent two months with a host family while doctors prepared for the March 8 surgery. Five doctors participated.

Had the operation not been done, Dominique could have been paralyzed by the extra weight on her spine.

Dominique received treatment thanks to Children’s Medical Mission West, a nonprofit “dedicated to making life-changing differences for children with medical needs from all parts of the globe.”

Today I have my daughter,” said Dominique’s father at the airport in Abuja, Ivory Coast.

“I don’t know what words I can use to say thank you to the NGO and to the Americans for what they have done for us. I can’t find the words. But truly, a big thank you,” he said.
