This waiter always wore a million dollar smile for all his customers like any other. But there was one very obvious factor missing in his smile that a caring customer noticed!
Brian Maixner worked with Timirie Shibley, who owns the Doo-Dah Diner in Wichita, Kansas, with her husband.
“He’s one of those employees you wish you had six of,” Shibley told TODAY.com about Brian and his dedicated services.
“His whole mission is to please people as quickly as possible and he laughs along the way. He’s a very hard worker.” According to her no one deserved the grand gesture that followed more than Brian.
Brian suffered from painful dental problems for years, but could not afford the expensive dental services. But then things took a turn.
Brian happened to wait on the table where, one Saturday, in January 2015, Attorney Fred Boettcher and his family ate breakfast at the diner.
“He was just so gregarious—it was unusual, even for a waiter,” Boettcher told TODAY.com.
“He has a smile that was from ear to ear. But you should have seen his teeth, they were horrible,” Boettcher said, who lives about 70 miles away in Ponca City, Oklahoma, but happened to visit his daughter and the diner in Wichita.
“It just struck me,” he said.
Brian took the family’s drink order and left and immediately, Boettcher, the generous diner wanted to help. He shared his thoughts with Shibley at the hostess stand.
“He said he could tell Brian was a very special person and he wanted to know if Brian would be offended if he offered to pay for his dental issues,” Shibley said. “Needless to say, I was floored. I immediately accepted on Brian’s behalf.”
She pulled Brian aside and told him and “we shed a couple of tears, and he continued waiting on them,” Shibley said.
“I was in shock. I was trying to wait on their table, but I was crying a bit,” he said.
Brian was immediately referred to Boettcher’s dentist. He still has more procedures to go and the dentist bill may add up to about $10,000 and $15,000, according to Boettcher.

Brian’s smile and life have changed.
“Oh my gosh, I just keep staring in the mirror and going, “Wow,” Brian said. “It just makes such a huge difference. Before, I was conscious about my smile, not that I could stop it. Even when my teeth were bad, I still smiled.”
Boettcher himself struggled in his youth with dental problems and finds every opportunity to help cover someone else’s dental bill. He says,. “I’m blessed with the ability to help,” “If I see it, I usually try to help, it just makes me feel better.”
Jessica Sommer, a legal assistant for Boettcher, said her boss is known for generous gestures like this one’. “He’s an incredible, incredible person,” she said. “He always does this for people and never wants any credit.”
Indeed one kind act is potential enough to bring remarkable change in anyone’s life!
Brian continues to smile as before, but now it also bears an added element of self-confidence!
