Veteran guitarist Carlos Santana collapsed on stage at a concert in Michigan on Tuesday after he suffered from heat exhaustion and dehydration, according to his website.
The 74-year-old musician passed out while performing at the outdoor Pine Knob Music Theater, about 40 miles northwest of Detroit, the statement said.
Santana was immediately taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston medical center for observation and is currently doing well.
“To one and all, thank you for your precious prayers. Cindy and I, we are good just taking it easy,” Santana wrote on his personal Facebook page, referring to his wife and drummer Cindy Blackman.
“Forgot to eat and drink water so I dehydrated and passed out, blessings and miracles to you all,” the Grammy Award-winning guitarist added.
According to video footage of the incident that was shared on social media, the star is seen surrounded by crew members and medical personnel who helped him off the stage.
Santana’s manager, Michael Vrionis, confirmed the guitarist’s show on Wednesday in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, would be postponed to a later date.
“The show for tomorrow July 6th at The Pavilion at Star Lake (formerly the S&T Bank Music Park) … will be postponed,” Vrionis wrote in a statement. “More details to follow thru Live Nation.”
The Mexican-American rock guitarist married drummer Blackman in December 2010 at the Ritz-Carlton on Maui. Blackman is a jazz and rock drummer who is well-known for her work with Lenny Kravitz in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Born in Mexico, Santana has been successful with his music in the United States since the late 1960s, with his debut album being released in 1969. He learned to play guitar at a young age and rose to fame with his band “Santana,” earning huge success with the albums Abraxas and Santana III in the early ’70s.
According to his website, Santana has sold more than 100 million records and reached more than 100 million fans at concerts worldwide. He has also won 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammys. In 1998, he and his band, Santana, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Santana was currently on his “Miraculous Supernatural 2022 Tour” before Tuesday’s medical emergency.
In December, the musician had to undergo a sudden heart procedure, prompting him to cancel a series of performances at his Las Vegas concert residency.
