NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says the alliance is not planning to send troops to Ukraine, but will continue to support the former Soviet republic financially and militarily in its defense against Russia.
While speaking in Brussels on Thursday, Mr. Stoltenberg also said that while NATO will continue sending aid, it “will not be party to the conflict.” He added that Ukraine has the right to defend itself against invasion under international law.
“Ukraine is defending their land, defending their territory,” he said. “And it is enshrined in international law. It’s enshrined in the UN Charter that self-defense is legal. You have the right to defend yourself. And that’s exactly what Ukraine does. And we have the right to support Ukraine in defending themselves.”
