A pet peacock is having an existential crisis and has run off to join the turkeys.

“It’s kind of funny actually,” Rene Johnson told WCAX-TV about her peculiar predicament.

She’s been trying to get her pet peacock, Pea, back after he ran off six weeks ago.

Shortly after his brother died, he ran off.

The family thinks he’s lonely.

“When we lost his little brother, I think the turkeys were more like him than the chickens, and he decided to take off with them,” Johnson said.

Pea now lives in a tree.

“See, he’s pretty happy—that’s where he hangs out at our house. So close, you just wanna bring him home,” Johnson said.

Johnson wrote to Vermont Fish and Wildlife asking for help, stating: “My peacock has run off with the turkeys. Do you have any suggestions on how to catch the little twerp?”

Fish and Wildlife posted it to Facebook saying “Maybe he would have found a different crowd to run with if he knew how close Thanksgiving was!”

You never know what the day will bring here at Vermont Fish & Wildlife. This was a request for help we got via email…

The post has since gone viral.

The family hopes Pea will come home for the holidays.
