Pregnant Singer Jessica Simpson Shares Picture of Severely Swollen Foot Asking for Help

Celebrity singer Jessica Simpson is having a tough pregnancy.

The singer, actress, and fashion designer, who is pregnant with her third child, shared a photo on Instagram of her swollen foot, asking her four million followers for advice.

“Any remedies?! Help!!!” she captioned the post on Thursday, Jan. 10.

The sparkly gold pedicure wasn’t enough to distract from the swelling.

“Supergirl” actress Odete Annable commented, “Omg remember mine looked like that in St. Barth’s? Keep those feet up girl!!!”

“Oh sweetie I went through the same thing with my first pregnancy,” Another user commented, “Just keep them up and lay down as much as possible. Poor thing.”

Another user shared a little less encouraging experience. “Ugh, I remember. It was so painful. Nothing helped me!”

Along with keeping her feet elevated, others suggested Epsom salt soaks and seeing a doctor.

Swelling During Pregnancy is Normal

Swelling is a normal part of pregnancy, according to the American Pregnancy Association (APA). The swelling, which is called edema, is common in the hands, face, legs, ankles, and feet. The site explains that during pregnancy, “the body produces approximately 50 percent more blood and body fluids to meet the needs of the developing baby.”

According to the APA, eating bananas and other foods high in potassium may help reduce the swelling. Other recommendations include avoiding standing for long periods of time, limiting salt intake, and drinking plenty of water.

Other Instagram users suggested she could have preeclampsia, which is the onset of high blood pressure, usually after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Swelling—especially in the face and hands—is common with the condition, but “these also occur in many normal pregnancies, so they’re not considered reliable signs of preeclampsia,” the site, Mayo Clinic, explained. According to the site, foot and ankle swelling is common for pregnant women and typically goes away after the woman gives birth.

However, if sudden swelling or other unusual symptoms appear, the company recommends contacting a health care provider immediately.

It certainly hasn’t been the easiest pregnancy for Simpson. Earlier this week, the “With You” singer revealed she wasn’t well, captioning an Instagram post with “Sick day.”

On New Year’s Eve she also wrote: “OMG I can’t wait to have a waist again and not waddle in 2019.”

‘Surprise’ Baby No. 3

Simpson revealed in September on Instagram that she and her husband, Eric Johnson, were expecting their third child. “SURPRISE…” she wrote on Instagram.

“This little baby girl will make us a family of five,” she captioned the post. “We couldn’t be happier to announce this precious blessing of life.”

The couple, who wed in 2014, are already parents to 6-year-old daughter Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, and 5-year-old son, Ace Knute, according to People.

Simpson previously told the publication her children can’t stop asking questions about the new baby.

“They want to know every detail—like how milk comes out of mommy, how the baby will actually get here and if my belly button is a speaker to communicate with the baby,” she said.

The soon-to-be mother of three said she and her husband “are constantly cracking up and trying to figure out how to be honest…but not traumatize them or the friends and teachers we know they are sharing every detail with!”
