Prince William addresses mental health at documentary screening

Britain’s Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, attended a screening of “Mind Over Marathon” on April 18.

The BBC documentary follows 10 distance runners with mental health issues preparing for the London Marathon.

The royals are making mental health a priority.

Prince William’s brother Prince Harry recently revealed that he had mental health issues stemming from the death of his mother, Princess Diana, when he was only 12.

“The charitable work I do at the moment and the areas that I’m involved in, it all comes back to mental health,” the prince said at the screening.

“So many parts of what I go and visit, the people I meet, mental health is at the key heart of all their problems, whether it’s homelessness, veterans’ welfare, addiction—many of that stems from mental health issues,” he said.

Prince William also spoke with pop star Lady Gaga on Facetime earlier in the week. That discussion was published by the Heads Together campaign, led by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. The campaign uses the hashtag #oktosay to promote the idea that people should talk freely about mental health.

“There may be a time and a place for the ‘stiff upper lip,’ but not at the expense of your health,” Prince William said in an interview with Calmzine magazine.
