The Korean Folk Village or Minsok Chun is located in Gyeonggi, and introduces traditional culture from the late Joseon period to both local and international visitors through various programs and events. The village also shows various places with unique features which resembles the ones you can see in Korean dramas.
＊WEARING HANBOK
If you come to Korean Folk Village, one of the things you must do first if you haven’t already is to wear a hanbok to get the real feeling of the place. It’s common for many people to bring their own hanbok but if you don’t have your own, then it’s easy just to rent one at a store, like what Lan Qing and I did here.
If you’re a huge fan of historical dramas, this is the place for you! Walking through this village whether you are wearing a Hanbok or not, will make you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. Many historical dramas have been filmed here, like Moon Embracing the Sun, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, My Love From the Star and Empress Qi.
＊DANCING IN SQUARE + TIGHT ROPE PERFORMANCES
Every day, there will be performances held throughout the village where you can see the colorful costumes, creative storytelling, and festive celebrations. And just like in the period dramas, you’ll be able to hear the traditional Korean sounds and instruments played throughout the day.
Here, a tight rope walker astounds the audience with his balancing and acrobatic skills!
The Korean Folk Village is simply too large to explore in a few short hours. You really could spend the whole day here and experience the different places. Although we only went to a few locations inside, it’s up to you to explore the rest and re-live ancient Korean dramas once again.
