Fairfax Audiences Astonished by Shen Yun Performance

February 6, 2024

Shen Yun wrapped up its two-day performances on Sunday at the George Mason University Center for the Arts in Fairfax, Virginia.

Featuring classical Chinese dance, music, and a high-tech backdrop, Shen Yun depicts stories ranging from ancient Chinese legends to what is currently happening in communist China. The artistry left some audience members astonished.

Bill Fanning, a system engineer at NTT Cloud Infrastructure Services, said, “The orchestra was superb. The female dancers were incredibly graceful. And the athleticism of the male dancers was very amazing.”

Jessica Vasquez is the convention director at the non-profit Home Educators Association of Virginia.

“I love the colors, I love the dance, the technique, the preciseness,” she said. “It was just fantastic, very cultural.”

For Ajay Vinzé, the dean of George Mason University Costello College of Business, the two-string Chinese instrument, the erhu, impressed him.

“I love the music, especially the [erhu],” Mr. Vinzé said. “The amount of performance you can get out of two strings is fabulous. The singers are wonderful. I thought it was just a wonderful evening of interesting communication through art and culture.”

Mr. Vinzé said that the “notion of bringing peace and tranquility and harmony” came through the performances in many different ways.

The word Shen Yun means “the beauty of heavenly beings dancing.” Featuring music and dance, the company’s mission is to revive China’s 5,000 years of cultural heritage, which is deeply rooted in moral values and spirituality.

“Sometimes people sort of give up hope,” said Eldon Beck, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. During an interview with NTD, Lt. Col. Beck said that the lyrics of Shen Yun’s music serve as a reminder that the divine is real, especially in times of despair.

Lt. Col. Beck said, “There is a power beyond the bad things that are taking place on the Earth, and that God is real and this divine power that is within all of us because we come from his presence, and we are more than just, you know, flesh and blood. We all have the divine within us.”

He said Shen Yun really lived up to his expectations.

Shen Yun just finished its 10 performances in Washington, D.C.
