Shen Yun Performing Arts landed in Brisbane on Feb. 19, kick-starting their Australian tour. The New York-based company has sold out shows in Brisbane prior to their arrival—with fans warmly greeting the performers at the airport. Fans say the values Shen Yun brings to the table are needed in the world right now.

“I think Shen Yun speaks to so many people. It’s really uplifting, just bringing back the traditional culture of 5,000 years of civilization. It’s just traditional values of wisdom, truth, and tolerance. It’s just what the world needs right now,” said Christy Mena, a Shen Yun fan.

“Not only the best performance but behind it [is] the beautiful message. Everyone wants to see it,” said Ty Dao, a Shen Yun fan.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the essence of traditional Chinese culture from before communism. The company draws inspiration from 5,000 years of rich history and values, all deeply rooted in spirituality.

“It feels really sad that [in] China nowadays, you can’t see any traditional things anymore. Shen Yun tries to revive the 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture. I feel very proud to be a part of it,” said Kathy Wu, a dancer with Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“I think with Shen Yun, we are more than just a show. We bring to the audience an experience, and that is universal. Whether it be in Europe or Japan or all across the world, in the United States, in Australia, it’s an experience people feel. And they go away uplifted,” said Daniel Sun, a dancer with Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“We not only have technical skills but also the values that we portray are very unique and special,” said David Xiao, a dancer with Shen Yun Performing Arts.

Debbie Jin is a principal violinist in the Shen Yun Performing Arts live orchestra. She said, “There’s so much going on every day. Shen Yun can really act as a beacon of light for everyone, and our show never fails to inspire and bring happiness and touch people’s hearts.”

Shen Yun will perform seven packed shows in Queensland from Feb. 23 to 27 before moving on to their next destination in Bendigo, Victoria.
