WASHINGTON—Steven Maldonado from Florida is now a big supporter of President Donald Trump, but he wasn’t four years ago.
“I was never a very patriotic person, but in the last four years, I saw a large group of people, politicians, media, all gang up on one person and try to silence him. It made me wonder why, logically, you want to find out what’s their reasoning. They are underhanded and they have done everything possible to silence what he has tried to say,” he said at a pro-Trump rally in Washington on Dec. 12, when tens of thousands traveled to the nation’s capital to support the president and call for a free and fair election.
“I think he’s fighting for our country, and fighting for our Constitutional rights, and I see one group trying to take those rights away, and Trump standing for [our rights],” Maldonado said.
“So when it comes down to losing our liberties, one group is picking at them, cutting at them, chipping at them little by little. Whatever the other group is, trying to preserve them, is the group that I’m going to side with, and Trump happens to be that person, the leader of that group, so I side with him 100 percent.”
Maldonado said it was not just about a candidate or one election, there was something bigger at play resulting in the massive protests people have seen across the country.
“In the long run, in the bigger picture there is a battle between good and evil, and the other side is doing a lot of evil to get their way into the White House, and, well, tampering with our election process, undermining our Constitutional rights for the sake of, again, winning the presidency, so there is definitely a bigger picture, something going on behind the scenes,” he said. “And I believe good and evil is the reasoning and the motive behind that.”
Dustin Howell, also from Florida, agreed with his friend.
“This is the last free place in the world,” Howell said. “We’re trying to stand against communism, socialism, globalism, just trying to preserve our American way of life.”
