Why It’s Difficult to Reduce Reliance on Taiwan’s Advanced Chips: US–Taiwan Business Council VP Weighs In

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) was back at 70 percent of operational capacity in its wafer factories within 10 hours of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday. Capacity is now at over 80 percent, alleviating concerns among global tech manufacturers. But will there be any ripple effects from the downtime? And why is the western world still so dependent on TSMC in the first place, despite efforts to reduce reliance? NTD spoke to Lotta Danielsson, the vice president of the U.S.–Taiwan Business Council, to find out more.
